Can someone explain me this schematic?

I am new to schematics and I am trying to make a guitar distortion pedal. I've got all the components I need but I can't figure out how to connect the components. I don't understand what the gound is here for, where exactly i have to put the pots and how do i take input from the jack as there are two terminals that come in. Please explain it to me and i'll give you 10 points for this.
