Best way to curl my hair?!?

I have thick hair and it's faintly wavy and it's a pain to straighten it as it is, but I wanna curl it and a little moose doesn't help, braiding it a ton is a pain. So how can I curl It nicely? I have a curling iron but I'm not sure how to curl with it, please help! Thanks! :)
